Sri Lanka Association for Dramatherapists will be organizing a Dramatherapy day on Friday October 5th 2018, to coincide with the World Mental Health Day. This event will take place at Nelung Arts Centre in Colombo, from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

The objective in organizing this event is to create awareness about Dramatherapy among the public, and this event is open for all.

Dr Ravindra Ranasinha and Tehani Chitty RDT will conduct the main session, ‘‘What is Dramatherapy?” The above session aims to provide the participants an experiential understanding about dramatherapy. It will be structured to let the participants work in group form. Dr. Ravindra Ranasinha will lead the participants in a self-exploratory journey, utilizing symbols and sculpting. Then, Ms. Tehani Chitty will engage the participants in a story, letting them to construct new meanings to their lives and view the role dynamics, within the story. This exploratory process will enable the participants to bring forth their unconscious behaviours to a conscious level, and open a platform for discussion: on their experience and the strengths of dramatherapy.

There will be other sessions at this event, namely:

  • Conquering depression through dramatherapy

  • Trauma-focused dramatherapy

  • Dramatherapy to support problem children

  • Dramatherapy through an Ayurvedic Lens
