KUWAIT: Intisar Foundation- Women, War, Mental Health, and the Quest for Peace- UN75Talk Webinar Dis

Commemorating World Refugee Day 2020, Intisar Foundation, the United Nations in the State of Kuwait, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in the State of Kuwait (UNHCR) and the UN Women held a webinar entitled “Women, War, Mental Health and The Quest For Peace”. The UN75Talk tackled the challenges that refugees and women affected by war face and their efforts to achieve peace in the Arab region. This talk accentuated the role of mental health care and specifically the use of Drama Therapy in efforts to reduce future violence in families, societies, and communities at large.

During the webinar, the Intisar Foundation shared its first qualitative research paper on exploring the narratives of women’s experience with Drama Therapy and the role of women as peace agents in the Arab world. Their paper illuminates the factors that contributed to a positive psychometric impact in terms of reducing symptoms of PTSD, depression, anxiety, and improving self-esteem with women affected by war. Another core finding was the importance of empowering women as leaders in the global peace agenda. There is a significant need for more research in the field of Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) and its role in peace building
